In fact, I think these eight books should be required reading for every Christian. There is so much meat on the bone, and a ton of knowledge to gain from these. I highly recommend checking them out. I’ll be giving more book recommendations in the coming weeks and months, but these are the essential eight I would recommend.

The Philosophy of Ministry of Calvary Chapel by Chuck Smith: It explains the “why” behind effective ministry—glorifying God by building up mature saints through expository teaching (Ephesians 4 focus) so they can do the work of ministry.

Calvary Chapel Distinctives by Chuck Smith: It covers the movement’s balance of strong Word teaching and openness to the Holy Spirit’s gifts, without hype or rigid programs.

Doctrines by Raul Ries: A straightforward, simplified guide to core biblical doctrines. Helpful for grounding believers in essential truths and spotting false teachings. Ries makes it straight forward—like a “road map” for faith.

The Crucified Life by A.W. Tozer: Deep and convicting on dying to self, the cross-centered life, and moving beyond shallow Christianity. Tozer challenges readers to true surrender and a deeper walk with Christ.

The Measure of a Man by Gene Getz: Outstanding for character development, especially with men. It draws 20 attributes of a godly man from 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, with practical applications for daily life, leadership, family, etc.

Victorious Christian Service by Allan Redpath: Focuses on abundant, victorious living through a study of Nehemiah (rebuilding walls as a picture of spiritual restoration and service). Encouraging and practical for overcoming obstacles in serving God.

Second by L.E. Romaine: A Calvary Chapel classic on humble service as an “assistant” or “second” in leadership (like Aaron and Hur supporting Moses). It challenges pride and teaches faithful support roles.

The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer: It famously contrasts “cheap grace” with “costly grace,” emphasizing obedience, taking up the cross, and following Jesus fully (with strong exposition of the Sermon on the Mount). It’s challenging and profound—widely regarded as a modern classic for serious discipleship. Not light reading, but transformative.

My Prediction for the March Madness Championship Game

Will it be UConn or Michigan that wins it all?

Frank Ram

I’m a life long USC fan, and while we are now a part of the Big 10, I grew up hating everything about the Big 10, especially Ohio State and Michigan.

So it pains me to say this, but Michigan will win it all later today, and it won’t be close.

Michigan has been the most dominant team in the entire tournament — they’ve been on a different level physically and defensively, especially in the Final Four where they took care of Arizona.

UConn is a proven champion with incredible pedigree under Dan Hurley, but they’ve shown some cracks this year and Michigan’s size, athleticism, and defensive intensity match up very well against them.

I’m not a betting man, but the Wolverines have covered big numbers in their recent wins, and this line (Michigan -7) feels a bit short given how Michigan has been playing. Classes offered in the subscription based program include in depth courses in Old Testament books, New Testament books, Theology, Christian Ethics, Cults and World Religions, Church History, Bibliology and Archaeology, Science and the Bible, and many more.

Access to all this is just $15 a month or $120 a year.

The main reason I wanted to attend Bible college for many years now is to gain a richer knowledge of God’s Word, and now I can online for a very affordable price.

It’s an investment I’m making and will let you all know what I think as I dive deeper in a few classes.

Daily Devotional: Reading the Bible Daily

Reading the Bible daily is essential for all believers.

Frank Ram

“These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.” - Acts 17:11

When I rededicated my life to the Lord on January 4th, 2011, I was lucky that I attended a church that emphasized reading the word of God daily. I believe it’s essential for every Christian to do so.

In Matthew 4:4, it says that we are not to live by bread alone, but by every word of God. And we can’t just get that spiritual nourishment once a week on Sunday. Just as we need to fuel up our car with gasoline when it gets low, we cannot spiritually run on empty, and expect God to use our lives.

In 2 Timothy 4, we are charged as Christians to “Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.” That command is an impossibility if we are not in our word daily and filed with the Holy Spirit. In Isaiah 55:11, God says that His word will never return void. We need to read and meditate on it daily.

Daily Devotional (4/5/2026): Whosoever Believeth

Today, we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Frank Ram

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” - John 3:16

“He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” - Matthew 28:6

John 3:16 is probably the most famous Bible verse in the world, and perfectly encapsulates the message of the Gospel. The Good News that Jesus Christ came down to earth, from all eternity, lived amongst us, 100% man 100% God, lived a perfect life, went to the cross for the forgiveness of the world’s sins, rose again on third day, and gives us the gift of eternal life if we put our faith and trust in Him.

Today, we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus. Approximately 1,994 years ago, He conquered the grave. He is our only hope. Not in the sense that we have exhausted every other hope, and Jesus is the last resort, but that there is no other hope. In this world or anywhere else.

In John 3, Nicodemus approaches Jesus, I believe of genuine heart, because he could see that Jesus was of God. Jesus doesn’t waste any time and tells him he must be born again. We see in 2 Corinthians 5:17, 1 Peter 1:3, Titus 3:5, and other various places through the Bible that the Lord is referring to a Spiritual rebirth of the Spirit. When we ask the Lord to forgive our sins and we put our trust in Him, we are born again of the Spirit and we will spend eternity with Him. It is the Good News of the gospel.
